 English at St Augustine's is an ever-changing subject as we try to meet the needs of our pupils. We have adopted 'The Write Stuff' as our scheme for writing as it supports pupils to develop their vocabulary and confidence through a structured approach including Experience Days which our pupils love. 

Spelling is taught using 'The Spelling Shed' which children can also access at home. 

Reading is really important to us in school. We use Read Write Inc phonics before moving onto a structured scheme for KS2 readers to continue to support their reading skills when they move off the phonics scheme. We are a member of Calderdale's Reading Revolution which promotes reading for pleasure. As part of this every class has a set of Repeated Reads that the children enjoy joining in with. These texts are designed to enthuse children and encourage them to pick up a book!  Each classes repeated reads can be found on the class page of the website.
