British Values at St Augustine's

“Schools should promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.” [The Prevent Strategy, 2011]

At St. Augustine’s we celebrate and promote British values in all of our lessons. In our daily collective worships we also reinforce these values. These values enable us to distinguish right from wrong; to learn about the institutions of our country; develop our self-knowledge, self-esteem and self-confidence; and encourage respect for ourselves, others and democracy. Each half term, our school value is always linked to one of the British Values.

  • We understand right from wrong
  • We try to help other people
  • We respect the culture and beliefs of others
  • We treat everybody equally
  • We know that we are all special
  • We understand and respect the roles of people who help us
  • We understand the consequences of our actions
  • We listen to and respect other people’s opinions and values
